The
name Ayurveda was coined from the words Ayur meaning life and
Veda, the knowledge of science. Ayurveda epitomizes the science
of life which is as old as civilization itself and is deep rooted in
Indian culture and practice.
The basis of Ayurveda is the principle that the universe as well as
the Human body is composed of five elements, the Pancha Bootas namely:
Prithvi (Earth), Apya (Water), Teja (Fire), Vayu (Air), and Akash (Ether).
Since the fundamental composition is the same, there exists a harmony
between universe and human being.
Ayurveda is a unique healing practice that aims to create perfect health
through re establishing the natural state of balance. The Ayurvedic
text that is written in about 4000 BC, replete with descriptions of
diseases and remedies, is still the unquestioned reference to Ayurvedic
practitioners.
Although, widely followed in India, it was ignored in other parts of
the world, probably due to the difficulty in fetching the natural ingredients
like medicinal plants and preparations. However, the interest in Ayurveda
is resurrected these days, as people throughout the world are convinced
of the magical healing effect of Ayurveda for all acute and chronic
diseases without any side effects.
